Grand Pier’s monster plan for half-term

Friday 1st February

Parents who may be starting to worry about how to entertain their children during the forthcoming half-term holidays need look no further than Weston-super-Mare’s Grand Pier.

The seafront attraction plans to occupy lots of ‘little monsters’ with a few very special monsters of its own – of the dinosaur variety.

Titch is a 14-foot-long animatronic dinosaur, modelled on a Tyrannosaurus Rex, complete with snapping jaws, blinking eyes and, of course, a very loud roar.

He visited the Pier a few times last year and proved to be a monster hit.

Titch is returning, by popular demand, on Saturday 16 February – but he is not coming alone, he is bringing some fearsome (yet friendly) other creatures with him in what is being billed as a Dinosaur Takeover.

Tickets cost £1 per person, which includes all-day entry to the Grand Pier, plus a meet and greet and photo opportunities with Titch and the other dinosaurs, against the setting of a Jurassic Park-style Electric Fence display and Jurassic-themed-backdrop.

In addition to Titch there will be a sit-on animatronic Triceratops, which will offer ideal photo opportunities for those aged under seven, a ‘baby’ hand-held animatronic dinosaur and an ‘over the shoulder’ animatronic beast.

There will be plenty of props for people to hold onto and pose with, including a giant dinosaur egg, leg bone and a baby Triceratops which can be held.

Meanwhile the Pier will be hosting a “dino hunt” every day during the February half-term holiday.

Visitors, and brave young explorers, will be urged to grab their maps and venture across uncharted territories throughout the Pier on a quest to find long-lost dinosaur eggs, each of which has a letter on.

Find them all, unscramble the letters, and you’ll win a special treat.

To take part, visit the retail shop on the first floor of the Pavilion during half-term and staff will provide you with all the information you need for your roarsome adventure.

If you’re off exploring elsewhere during the February half-term, don’t worry, because Titch and his friends will be returning to the Pier on the weekend of 30 and 31 March, on Wednesday 10 April and Wednesday 17 April.

Tim Moyle, General Manager of the Grand Pier, said: “Titch proved very popular when he visited the Pier last year, so we’re delighted to be bringing him back for some return visits in 2019.

“And since he is not coming alone, we hope that anyone who wants to see him will bring their friends and family members along too!”
